The story

Before the war, in a small village, Naomi believes her dreams are glimpses of what is coming — and lately she dreams of foreign soldiers and a strange flag. No one takes her seriously. Then the Nazi shadow falls across Europe, and everything she feared begins to arrive.

Driven from their home, the family is drawn into the machinery of the Reich — the Warsaw ghetto, the trains, and finally Auschwitz, where Josef Mengele conducts his experiments on twins. As an ambitious SS doctor becomes Mengele’s apprentice and a daughter fights to stay alive in occupied Paris, the family’s fate narrows to a single question: who will still be breathing when it ends. Read in order, start to finish.
